Takoradi, April 4,-GNA-Residents within the Western and Central regions would soon begin using pre-paid electricity meters in their homes. Mr. Daniel Azu, Western Regional Manager of ECG disclosed these in an interview with the media at Takoradi.
He said already Accra, Kumasi and Tema were using pre-paid meters, while pilot programmes are being done at Koforidua and HO. Mr. Azu said there was the need for all Ghanaians to use electricity productively and wisely to minimize their consumption and save the generating systems.
He said the ECG had already completed the installation of a tower at Bogoso, but lack of an accessible road to the mountain had made work on the project difficult.
Mr. Azu said they have equipment to monitor rural networks with the aid of computers and to quickly detect faults and restore electrical power. He said the 300-kilometre project, which would cover Bogoso, Bawdie, Asankrangwa and Enchi would use radio relays that would be mounted on masts to facilitate communication.
Mr. Azu disclosed that another electricity line was being established from Half Assini to Enchi to enable them to have easy access to electricity.
He said presently major problem associated with the electricity company was the inability to detect faults and respond rapidly to them.
