WildAid, StarTimes to boost Africa's wildlife conservation

An international Non Governmental organization (NGO) called WildAid and Africa's digital TV operator, StarTimes have embarked on a mission to enhance Africa's wildlife conservation.

Their ultimate goal is to establish partnership to raise awareness on wildlife conservation in Africa.

They will also explore opportunities in content production and ground activities in Africa.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed in that regard in Beijing, China's capital city.

The duo have realized that illegal wildlife trade is a multi-billion Dollar global industry largely driven by consumer demand around the world, hence the move to curb the menace.

With 25 million users in more than 30 countries, StarTimes will go the extra mile to educate Africans on how priceless their wildlife is and the need to zealously safeguard it.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of WildAid, Peter Knights in a video message stated that, “We’re looking forward to producing new local programming on conservation, and getting the message to both villages and cities across the African continent.”

StarTimes Group Vice-President, Luis Lu, explained that, “As a bridge between China and Africa, StarTimes now joins the fight of protecting Africa’s wildlife.

WildAid works to reduce global consumption of endangered wildlife products and to increase local support for conservation efforts with high-impact media campaigns featuring some of the most influential voices in the world.

The organization also works with governments and partners to protect fragile marine reserves from illegal fishing, to enhance public and political will for anti-poaching efforts, and to reduce climate change impacts.
