The 2018 Energy Reporter of the Year, Michael Creg Afful, has called on workers in the energy sector especially those in the power sector, to work extra hard to ensure that there is stable supply of electricity throughout 2019 to keep the economy running.

He noted that the power sector is the backbone of the country's economy and, therefore, stressed the need for the workers to continue to be committed and dedicated to the course of the sector.

Mr Afful, who works with Accra-based Oman FM, made the call in a New Year message to Ghanaians.

"In the New Year, Ghanaians expect nothing but a stable power supply to enable them undertake their lawful businesses. It is instructive to note that the power sector (electricity and petroleum) is the backbone of the country's economy. It, therefore, behoves on us to work extra harder in the New Year to keep our lights on, to keep the transportation sector and economy running," he said.

He also called on Ghanaians especially those who engage in illegal electricity connections, to desist from the practice, stating that it is affecting the operations of the sector.

Touching on the management of the country's oil resources, Mr Afful noted that oil resources are for both the current and future generations and, therefore, called on those managing them to put them to god use for the benefit of all.

"To those managing our petroleum resources, know that the resources are for both the current and future generations, so, help us to put them to good use for the benefit of us all and not selected few."
