President John Mahama has urged Kenkey sellers in Yamoransa to take advantage of the Microfinance and Small Loan Centre –MASLOC – to aid their trade.

Onua FM’s Kwame Kakraba who was with President Mahama on his campaign tour of the Central Region reported the president asking the kenkey sellers to form cooperative societies and do the necessary documentations to enable them access the MASLOC loans.

MASLOC is a body responsible for implementing the Government of Ghana’s microfinance programmes targeted at reducing poverty, creating jobs and wealth.

The president was addressing market women at Yamoransa in the Mfantsiman district. One of the major thriving businesses in the area is the production of Fante Kenkey sold predominantly by women by the road side.

The president had earlier addressed students of the University of Cape Coast where he revealed that government is making efforts to revamp the coffee industry and make Ghana a net exporter.

Over 5 million coffee seedlings are being nursed and will be distributed to farmers, he noted. Meanwhile, the Cocoa Marketing Board is to come up with standard prices for coffee as it is with cocoa.

President Mahama also talked about the establishment of a cashew and oil palm regulatory board as well as efforts by his government to give the necessary support to rice farming to ensure that Ghana is able to produce enough rice to meet local demand by 2021.
