Zimbabwe hotel group invests in Ghana

Harare, April 12 - Zimbabwe`s biggest hotel group said Sunday it had clinched hotel management agreements in Botswana and Ghana, and was exploring investment opportunities elsewhere on the continent.

Zimbabwe Sun managing director Shingi Munyeza said the hotel group had won 20-year management contracts for two hotels in Botswana and Ghana which were under construction.

He said construction of the hotel in Ghana, expected to be a 130-room five star property, had started, while that of Botswana was due to begin shortly. "Our operations in Ghana will be through a joint venture between Zimsun and the owner of a local hotel in a deal in which we have secured a 20-year management contract," he said.

The group is Zimbabwe`s biggest hotel company, and in recent years has been investing in several countries in the region.

"We are still looking for more opportunities to expand our hotels under management in the region, and after 12 months, we will also look at some mergers and acquisitions with other regional players to consolidate our position as a leading hotel group in the region," said Munyeza.
