The Chief Executive (DCE) for the Agotime/Ziope District Assembly, John Kwaku Amenyah, has revealed that it is partnering Dexaline Limited, a Ho-based private company, to establish a tomato-processing factory at Nyekornakpoe in Ziope.
Mr Amenyah stated that it is a Public Private Partnership (PPP) and when the initiative was realized, it would bring employment opportunity to Ziope and its environs.
He said it would also reduce the annual glut and consequent low prices paid farmers during bumper harvest.
The DCE made this known at the 63rd Independence Day Celebration parade held on the theme “Sustaining our Gains” at Ziope.
About 800 schoolchildren drawn from the district basic schools and second cycle institutions took part in the march past. Also voluntary organizations, Beauticians Association, GPRTU, Fire Service, the Ambulance Service and farmers, took part in the parade, with Agotime Senior High School Brass Band and its School Cadet Corps thrilling the spectators.
Chiefs and traditional leaders were not left out; they exhibited their rich traditional Kente costume to the admiration of the invited guests.
The DCE seated that Ghana had come far since gaining her independence and that the political freedom being enjoyed today could not be completed unless it was linked to the economic freedom of the citizenry.
He admonished school children in the districts to study hard to justify the huge investments both their parents and the government were making in their education.
The DCE paid a glowing tribute to the fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the country.
Mr. Amenyah urged farmers to take advantage of ‘Planting for food and jobs’ programme to increase food production in the district.
“I admonish you, particularly the youth, to take advantage of the numerous government intervention to improve on your lives and also come up with innovations to contribute your quota to national development.
The decision to celebrate the Independence Day at Ziope was to afford citizens in other parts of the district the opportunity to have a feel of the celebrations, he said and advised against recriminatory tendencies, but rather put their shoulders to the wheel to build a new and better Ghana.
A former member of Council of State who chaired the anniversary, Togbe Binah Lawlivi VI, appealed to the citizenry to eschew corruption in all facets of the economy so that a stable country could be built.
