Pressure has been heightened on leadership of the local union of the Agricultural Development Bank (adb) after some staff members announced their secession from the Union of Industry, Commerce and Finance Workers (UNICOF).
They have, consequently, joined the Financial-Business and Services Employees Union (FBSEU) of the Ghana Federation of Labours (GFL).
“In exercise of our legal right to join a Trade Union of choice for the protection of our social and economic interest, we have opted to join the FBSEU of GFL,” a letter said.
The letter intercepted by www.tv3network.com expressed disappointment and disgust in the current leadership.
Recent wrangling between staff of the bank – represented by UNICOF – and management has left a sour relationship between the two, affecting operations, according to staff.
The staff requested the resignation of the Managing Director, Stephen Kpordzih, and the dissolution of the bank’s board as indicated by UNICOF.
But the splinter union says UNICOF shifted the goal posts in renegotiating the staff’s demands.
“UNICOF has also failed to communicate with staff of adb on these same issues which are unrelated to the IPO.”
They claim the recent sit-down strike – which was later described by UNICOF as just a protest – is “disgraceful”.
“By copy of this Resolution/ Letter, the Chief Labour Officer is accordingly informed about our decision,” the letter concludes.
