This is a step in the right direction. Indeed the are involved in what I term "create, blackmail and benefit" No work only 8 hours out of 24 hours of service and charge u to pay whiles they are not available to provide sane service. They delay in issuing invoices and fail to release the containers with lapses to send your containers to demurrage charges. They don't work during weekends and holidays and they will count into demurrage to charge you. Though you have the containers in front of their terminal to deliver to them. Their benefits from demurrage every year is about 1℅ of Ghana's GDP. And they cause 60℅ of issues leading to demurrage. Prof, I have a petition pending in your office on this same issue and I will happily come to ur office to tell you some of the scrupulous activities shipping lines are involved in. In fact when u solve this problem, all hearts of freight forwarder and traders would be for you.

The issue is shipping lines are involved in charging fees which are outrageous and also illegal. And Prif Gyampo is only seeking to curb it. So it is either u support an LI to streamline it or not? So why the insults? It is neither NDC or NPP. Let get serious Ghanaians.
However, it is time for ECOWAS to get a ship to for the West African coast to do a big business as it takes us more weeks to ship within the countries than to Europe relying on European shipping lines. Indeed black star lines is a huge business fror African investors to explore now.

Prof Gyampo, do you know that one of the reasons for the high cost of doing business in Ghana's ports is the tax collected by Ghana Shippers Authority? Experts on the maritime transport sector are of the opinion that Ghana Shippers Authority must by folded up because the government is no longer an importer so there is no need for the government to have a say in shippers matter. Rather the Shippers Authority must be a private sector institution. You are an academic so investigate into this instead of thinking of regulating shipping lines who are foreign entities operating under specific rules and regulations.
