Suport them with machinery and training at in a form of loan and a local mining company is formed. with training and development, actual decent jobs will be created!

how can it be stopped when some of them are financed by the Chinese who are given free rein in the country . They have the audacity even to attack Ghanaians in their own country.

A legalized small scale cooperative mining body enshrined by constitution can be set up to deal with "galamsey." Much as the objective for galamsey is to generate quick money no matter the outcome ... the minister's alternaive idea cannot work..."Galamsey" if legalized will contribute immensely by way of job creation, and revenue generation in suport of the nations economy. The land is endowed with rich natural resources as like the Ghana;s coast line but lack of matured policy makers aren;t there to face truth fact and task hence the hell of youth unemployment in Ghana. Legalise Galamsey to provide job avenues for all . The rush of foreigners CHINESE AND INDIANS to scramble for our natural resources illegally is becos there exist no law to enforce protect small scale mining .....devoted solely for Ghanaians. If Galamsey is officialy legalized by the cabinet ... no chinese ,and indians will dare

The free-for-all of the numerious galamnsey operations in Ghana to-day is been made worst since what can now be termed as the unusual "exodus" of a great number of illegal Chinese criminals into this country. Before the arrival of these people, mining by the locals caused less destruction to the environment so that not many people even knew or heard about such operations, but now that is all changed because of the Chinese people's determination to continue looting everything valuable from Africa irrespective of the consequences. Indeed why should these Chinese care for the damage caused to our lands and the polluted river basins? They already know how poor our leaders are, lacking in every department of good leadership, how weak the government is and so carry on regardless with impunity. In view of such adversity how then does the government minister promise to find alternative jobs for "galamensey" operators when most of these rogues are Chinese citizens living in Ghana. Let the fun begin.

Would a CHINESE work in planting trees by stopping the lucrative ILLIGAL GALAMSEY OPERATIONS?This minister is A JOKE.MAKE STRINGENT RULES THAT BIND THESE FOREIGNERS FROM ILLEGAL MINING AND STOP THE CRAP YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT.JAIL THESE CHINESE,INDIANS,NIGERIANS 50 YEARS WITH HARD LABOUR,AND THEY WOULD SERVE AS SCAPE GOATS to them that are in.IF NOTHING VIGOROUS IS DONE TO PUSH THESE FOREIGNERS OUT OF WHAT IS KILLING THE NATIONALS,THEY WOULD ALWAYS DO WHAT THEY ARE DOING WITH IMPUNITY.I do not understand why you would deploy the SECURITY FORCES to fight unnecessarily against these foreigners if stingent rules could bind them and be sure some be made SCAPE GOATS should they do not obey the rules.I THINK THE NDC & SOME CHIEFS SUPPORT THESE FOREIGNERS TO LOOT OUR RESOURCES AND POLUTE OUR LANDS.If I am wrong, why then have they entertained them for so long?

Legal and properly organised small-scale mining is not only necesaary but a must be for Ghana. Every industry has small, medium and large scale participants. So shall it be in Mining too. It's potential for employment generation and improvement of living standard of millions of Ghanaains is enormouse. However, if we do not act fast on the following 1. the politicization of illegal mining - where DCEs and MPs in mining areas used it for votes buying and means to settle thri problems with large mining comapnies. 2. Must be Regarded as a business with strict rules and assisted by Gov't with payback period and 3. Duly apply the law that prevent foreigners participation, this important avenue to uplift the country will be lost forever. the gold boom is being utilised by a numbere of South American countries to improve their lot. In Ghana, politicians are using it only to perpetuate their stay in office and take good care of their kids to take over the mantle of leadership in future. Poor Ghanaians.
