the farmers are applying the rules of the free market system. governments for a long time have been fraudulently cheating these farmers. and the ndc government has intentionally pegged the cedi to the dollar in such a way as to increase the pain of the farmers. after all they own the cocoa. anyone who doesn't agree with them should go and plant their cocoa and give it free to the government and its officials to squander the money.

The question is why is Ghana Government paying the farmers less than what the Ivorian's or other countries are paying for similar crop? I remember when Government used to pay equivalent amount of cash for cocoa in Ghana in comparison to other countries. Cocoa Price is and should be determined by the international market so that prices are fair irrespective of where cocoa is produced or sold.

Farmers work their ass off to contribute their quota to Ghana's Economy, but what do they get in return for their hard work? There used to be bonus paid to farmers every year during the light crop season, well only the Heaven knows what to happened to that policy!!
Don't get me wrong because I do not belong to any political party, however, the truth needs to be said

i don't blame the farmers for selling their cocoa to the Ivorian, and I am sure any one of you will do the same thing if the roles were reversed. how long should they be cheated from their hard earn money. farmers in develop countries are one of the richest people in their society farming things that don't come close in demand to the cocoa but our cocoa farmers can't even afford clean brand new t-shirt. so before you start judging them ask yourself why that is. To me it's about survival and being well of at the end of the day and not being cheated after years of back breaking harvest.
