ICC accredits Ghana-trained Gambian

Johnny Gomez, vice president and coordinator of the Gambia Cricket Association (GCA), has been accredited International Cricket Coach (ICC), after successfully completing a cricket course in Ghana.

Johnny is the first Gambian to achieve such a status in the history of cricket in the country.

Asked to comment on his new honour, Johny said: ?It means that I am more equipped to handle cricket jobs on the ground. The course lasted three days, but it was a packed one. It covered all aspects of the game. This is the first time ICC has conducted such a course in West Africa. The knowledge I gained will help me train coaches to train cricketers, especially within the school system.?

Johnny disclosed that a cricket training course would be organised for school teachers around the end of February. Meanwhile, George Greywoode, a member of the GCA, also attended a three- day batsman and coaching clinic in Ghana last month.
