An 18-year-old Junior High School (JHS) 3 student, Richard Asare, is currently serving a six-month sentence at the Koforidua Local Prison after being convicted of stealing a sheep.

A report posted on X by EDHUB indicated that Richard, who has lost both parents, committed the crime out of desperation to get money to buy items for his education.

The post read: “The sad story of 18-year-old Richard Asare, who is currently serving a 6-month sentence at the Koforidua Local Prison after being convicted of stealing a sheep. Richard, an orphan and a JHS 3 student, claimed he committed the act in a bid to use the proceeds to buy school items.”

"I attend school at Tutu Akuapem and I am in JHS 3. My parents are dead, and I needed some items for school. I don’t have any help. That is why I stole the sheep in order to sell it and use the money to buy the items. My dad died when I was 11 years old, and my mother died this year," Richard explained in a video attached to the post.
