18 year-old driver's mate granted bail

A Cape Coast Circuit Court on Tuesday granted bail in the sum of GH¢500.00 to an 18 year-old bus conductor and resident of Moree in the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese District for stealing.

Baba Issaka, who is to report to the police every Tuesday until the final determination of the case, was arrested for allegedly stealing nine assorted pieces of cloth valued at GH¢460.00 and a bag valued at GH¢40.00, totalling GH¢500.00.

His plea was not taken and would be re- arraigned on January 13, 2015.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Okyere Andam, who prosecuted, told the court presided over by Mr. Kofi Seshie Ametewee that the complainant, Mr. Kweku Mankessim is a fisherman also resident of Moree.

He said in September this year, Mr. Mankessim went on a fishing expedition and left his room in the care of his nephew, one Joseph Awotwe who also took Issaka into the room to repair his phone after which Issaka left.

Some days later, an unidentified person broke into the room and made away with the aforementioned items.

He said on Tuesday December 16, Mr. Awotwe visited a tailor’s shop to collect a shirt he had asked the tailor to sew for him, only to find one of the stolen fabrics in the tailor’s possession.

Upon enquiry, the tailor named Issaka as the one who had brought the fabric to be sewn into a shirt for him. Mr. Awotwe made a complaint at the police station and Issaka was arrested.

Issaka in his caution statement admitted stealing the said items.
