2 More testify in Prophet Nkansah’s trial

Two more persons in the dock with Prophet Daniel Nkansah, a former presidential aspirant and founder of the New Vision Pentecostal Church in Accra over robbery charges, yesterday took turns to testify in the case.

They were Otukunor Sackey, mason and Emmanuel Salami Azumah, driver – being the 5th and the 6th accused persons in the trial respectively.

In the case of Otukunor, he said he was at the labour office when Prophet Nkansah came to call him that a tenant had attacked his (Nkansah’s) son and as such must go and drive him (the tenant) away for him.

He said although he entered the shop, he did not pick anything from the office of Stephen Ped Andam, the complainant and tenant in one of the stores of Prophet Nkansah at Atico in Accra.

Otukunor further claimed in the court presided over by Francis Obiri, that it was not his intention to rob the complainant.

He said he had been a member of the church of Prophet Nkansah and denied the position of prosecution that he had been convicted in a murder trial.

Otukunor in addition denied the CCTV footage which allegedly captured him giving a laptop to Richard Annor Baidoo aka Anold, the 10th accused person.

But Chief Inspector Eddie Afful insisted that the said laptop was found in Otukunor’s residence at Dansoman during his arrest.

Emmanuel Salami Azumah also testifying, said he did not know any of the complainants in the case.

He denied entering the store of the complainant, insisting that he was standing by his car as at the time the other accomplices were in the office of Ped Andam.

During cross-examination, the prosecutor among other things, accused Azumah of lying to the court.

However, the trial judge threw out an application for submission of no case filed by C. A. Hoeyi in respect of the seventh accused person in the case – Samuel Kweku alias Sammy Tuga.

Mr. Obiri maintained that the prosecution had been able to establish a case against Sammy Tuga and accordingly ordered him to open his defence at the next adjourned date.

Earlier, Mr. Hoeyi, while casting doubts on the case of the prosecution, said his client had no link to the case of robbery before the court.

Prophet Nkansah is facing six counts of conspiracy to rob and robbery with his son, Boahene Nkansah Jnr, and eight others – two of who are currently on the run.

They are said to have robbed Andam on February 1 of his Samsung S4, iPhone, Dell laptop with charger, cheque books, international driver’s licence, certificates, iPad 32GB and cash of GH¢55,000.

Prophet Nkansah, in connivance with his son and the 10 others, are also alleged to have made away with a Blackberry Q10 mobile phone and GH¢500 belonging to one Geshon Essel, while another person, Billy Apeku Ken also claims his Samsung mobile phone, Dell laptop and GH¢750 are missing.

The fourth complainant, Isaac Tetteh Korgbey, is accusing the prophet and the 11 others of the disappearance of his Dell laptop and Sony video camera. One Emmanuel Nana Kwaku Badu has also complained of his missing wallet containing GH¢1,000 and I.D. cards.

Prophet Nkansah, his son and the others have all denied the charges.

Sitting continues on February 25, 2015.
