An Accra circuit court has granted GH¢20,000.00 bail to two traders with two sureties each, who should be public servants, for allegedly robbing a marketing officer.
Farouk Omar and Jude Donkor, accused, who denied conspiring to rob Mr Georges Somian Ehouman, the marketing officer, would re-appear in court on August 21.
Police Inspector Samuel Ahiabor told the court, presided by Mrs Ruby Naa Adjeley Quaison that Mr Ehouman, the complainant, is a resident of Dansoman in Accra, and the accused also lived at Dome, also a suburb of Accra.
He said on July 29, this year, at about 9:30pm, accused attacked the complainant, who was in possession of a bag and was walking along the Nima-Circle highway towards the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange.
Inspt Ahiabor said on reaching a section of the road near Busy Internet, Omar and Donkor, who were riding an unregistered motorcycle, suddenly crossed him and threatened to stab him with a knife if he failed to hand over his bag and mobile phone to them.
Prosecution said the complainant sensing danger, handed over his bag containing an HP laptop, valued at GH¢1,600.00, a Samsung A30 mobile phone, valued at GH¢1,190.00, a cash of GH¢400.00, among other valuables to the accused, and they sped off on the motorcycle with the booty.
Inspt Ahiabor said the complainant reported the case to the Holy Gardens Police, at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle.
He said a police patrol team arrested Omar at Achimota, in Accra, explaining that the team signaled the accused to stop, but they refused, and they were chased until they were involved in an accident around Alogboshie, a suburb of Achimota.
Inspector Ahiabor said Donkor, the pillion rider escaped with the bag whilst Omar was arrested and handed over to the Mile Seven police.
On July 30, the police led the complainant to the Mile Seven police station, and he identified Omar as one of the persons, who robbed him.
Insp Ahabor said during investigations, Omar mentioned Donkor as an accomplice, and he was later arrested.
He said all the stolen items except the money were retrieved, and after investigations, they were charged and put before court.
