27 year-old Church thief jailed

A 27 year-old electrician said to be linked to two cases of church burglaries at Agogo in the Asante-Akim North District, has been sentenced to five years imprisonment in hard labour by the Juaso Circuit Court.

Mohammed Issah was handed the punishment after he pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful entry and stealing.

Police Chief Inspector Leo Boateng, told the court, presided over by Mr Fredrick Tetteh that, the convict broke into the Musama Disco Christo Church (MDCC) in early July and made off with a number of items.

These included DVD player, FM receiver, fan regulators, electrical switches and flower pots.

The prosecution said the theft was formally reported to the police by the elders of the church.

On July 27, Issah was arrested when he raided another church in the town and a search conducted in his room uncovered some of the items stolen from the MDCC.

Police Chief Inspector Boateng said the convict confessed to the crime in his caution statement and mentioned one Bright as his accomplice but could not lead the police to the said man.
