3 suffer gunshot wounds as police chase robbers in Yendi

Three persons narrowly escaped death on Tuesday though suffering injuries after they were shot by armed robbers in an attempt to prevent the robbers from attacking their target.

According to a police report issued by the Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), DSP Yussif Tanko, the Yendi Police Division received information of gunshots at the Yendi Market area on Tuesday, August 28 at about 05:25pm

They later went to the Yendi market area to ascertain things for themselves.

But before they got to the scene, the suspects had bolted on a motor bike.

“Police proceeded to the scene and found five empty AK 47 shells and blood stains on the ground, on the spot,” the report stated.

Investigations later revealed that a businessman by name Kofi Boateng, who deals in exchange of currencies, was attacked by two unidentified men in a mask at gun point and robbed him of all the money he had on him.

Three other people at the scene who were trying to prevent the armed robbers were shot.

The three, Abdul Razak, 22, Fuseini Ibrahim, 17, and Iddrisu Imoro, 29, are all natives of Yendi in the Northern Region.

Abdul Razak was shot at his left wrist, Fuseini Ibrahim in both legs whilst Iddrisu Imoro was shot in the waist with the bullet penetrating the lower part of his stomach.

The victims were rushed to the Yendi Government Hospital, where they are currently receiving medical treatment.

Meanwhile, efforts are being made to track down the suspects, with the police intensifying patrols within the area.
