Seven Nigerians believed to have stabbed three of their compatriot during a refreshment party in their new King’s house at Legon have been arrested on suspicion of robbery by the Legon Police.
The seven are Iseanya Arinze, 24; Stanly Chima, 26; Ogbalde John, 20; Chukwu Chikwado, 43; Prince Okonye, 22; Thinweuba Obisike, 22 and Henry Ugweudlam, 17.
They were all arrested at their Lake Side residence upon a tip-off that they allegedly stabbed the three men at the refreshment.
When their apartment was thoroughly searched by the police for evidence to implicate them of the alleged attack, a number of fake United States dollar notes, 10 laptops, binocular lens and police uniform, 2 dagger knives, 2 machetes, and a special knife – all concealed in a bag hidden on their roof top were discovered.
The seven were immediately apprehended on suspicion that they would be armed robbers and had been detained at the Legon Police Station assisting in investigations.
When DSP Emmanuel Basintali, the Legon District Police Commander, was contacted, he narrated that on Saturday, November 15, 2014, the Ibo Community in Ghana held an election to elect a new king and chairman to lead the Ibo Community in Ghana.
After the election, the newly elected king invited his people to his house for a party.
The said party was attended by all Ibos, including supporters of the new chairman.
In the course of the merrymaking, a man believed to be a supporter of the newly elected chairman lighted a cigarette and started smoking amongst the guests present.
This action infuriated some of the guests who allegedly instructed the smoker to leave the area since it was a public place not meant for smoking.
This brought a misunderstanding between some of the loyalists of the smoker and the guests.
In the course of the chaos, three persons were stabbed with some broken bottles and so the police were immediately called to the scene.
The three, who were stabbed, were sent to the nearby hospital for treatment while the police were allowed to investigate the matter with the cooperation of the newly elected leaders.
While investigations were ongoing, the seven were identified as suspects who stabbed the three persons and so police followed up to their Lake Side residence to apprehend them.
During a search in their house, the aforementioned items were found hidden in the ceiling.
Upon interrogation, the seven said they used the items for shooting of movies in the country, even though they were not actors.
