An 80-year-old Fulani man was shot last Saturday, by unidentified gun men at Kamampa, near Abease in the Pru District of Brong-Ahafo Region.

According to residents in the farming community, Alhaji Beede is in a critical condition, but he is responding to treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

The gun men also shot 40 cows belonging to the victim and fled the area.

An eye witness told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in a telephone interview on condition of anonymity that the victim had for some time now allowed his cattle to graze and destroyed people’s farms and properties.

According to the eyewitness an uproar which erupted in the town nearly turned blood, when some irate youth in the area set ablaze quantities of yams and seedlings belonging to Nana Kwame Wande, Odikro of Kamampa.

It said the aggrieved youth accused the chief of conniving with the Fulani herdsmen to allow their animals graze on people‘s farms in the area.

But the timely intervention of a contingent of police and military personnel save the situation, the eyewitness added.

Meanwhile, farmers in the community have expressed worry about influx of Fulani herdsmen in the area.

According to the farmers, activities of the herdsmen were affecting their economic activities as they allowed their cattle to graze and destroyed their farms.

They appealed to the Brong-Ahafo Regional Security Council to as a matter of urgency intervene to bring the situation under control.
