There was drama at an Accra Circuit Court when a suspect accused of robbery demanded drugs from Police in order to be stable in the mind as he appeared before the court on Friday.
Isaac Kofi Binder, an electronics repairer told Police officers at the court that, “I just need some tranquilizers”.
When the matter was called Binder started misbehaving which led to the trial judge asking whether he was fine.
Binder replied; “I need tranquilizers and I will be okay”.
The Judge, Mrs Abena Oppong-Adjin-Doku asked, “How did you know you needed tranquilizers, Are you a doctor or nurse?”
The accused replied was “Tea is tea”.
The Court then ordered the Prosecution to send Binder to the Psychiatric Hospital where he could be examined as well as take his medication. He is to reappear before the court on February 1.
Binder’s plea was reserved by the court.
He is alleged to have robbed a Community Health Nurse at Pantang.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Victor Dosoo said the complainant Miriam Desewa resides at Shalom Estate at Pantang with her parents.
Chief Inspector Dosoo said on January 16, this year, at about 12:15 in the afternoon, the complainant closed from work and was heading towards home when the accused person met her on the way.
The Prosecution said suddenly, the accused persons rushed on the complainant with a long stick and threatened to hit her with the stick if she fails to surrender her bag.
According to the Prosecution, the complainant pleaded with the accused but he dragged her into a nearby push, tore her dress and gave her two slaps and made away with two ID cards, three ATM cards, a pen drive and a cash of GHc20.00.
The Prosecution said the complainant sustained some bruises on her face and her right finger.
A report was made to the Police at Mountain View Station and the accused was arrested.
When accused person’s room was searched the complainants two ID cards, three ATM cards a pen drive were retrieved up by the Police.
The Prosecutor said accused in his cautioned statement admitted the offence.
