Breman Asikuma (C/R) July 12 GNA- Personnel at the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa Police station, could not respond to a distress call to combat armed robbers who attacked an official of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI),at the Social Security and National Insurance Trust flat in the town.
The District Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kingsley Owusu-Bempah who made this known to the Ghana News Agency in an interview at Breman Asikuma, said before the personnel received a vehicle from a Good Samaritan and rushed to the scene the robbers had completed their operations and left. According to the Police Commander at about 0130 hours on July 7, the police received the call that the robbers had attacked the residence of Mr Frank Bawebe, District Director of the BNI and one Mr Kwesi Boadu, a farmer.
He said the robbers robbed Mr Bawebe of his four mobile phones, seized his car keys and locked him up in one of his rooms and left. ASP Owusu-Bempah said Mr Buadu claimed the robbers took away GHC 1,000 meant to pay his farm labourers and subjected him to severe beatings with the butt of their guns.
He expressed concern about the increasing spate of armed robbery in the area, citing a similar incident that happened about two weeks when the house of one Opanyin Kojo Mensah was attacked at Breman Kokoso, and was robbed of his personnel belongings. ASP Owusu-Bempah therefore appealed to the police authorities to provide the station with a vehicle to facilitate effective patrols.
