Armed robbers numbering 6 have attacked and seized two fully loaded G3 riffles belonging to two military men identified as Lance Corporal Wonder Agbanya and one private Brempong of the 1BN who were Forestry patrol duties at Asitey Mountains in the Eastern Region, MyNewsGh.com has confirmed.
One Sergeant Daniel Akamaro of Regional SWAT Unit of the Ghana Police Service from Koforidua who was among the attacked security officers revealed that they met 6 robbers alleged to be Fulani men armed with shotguns who attacked them on Tuesday afternoon.
According to them, the armed robbers took their two G3 riffles away together with the AK47 rifle plus 24 rounds of ammunitions belonging to the Police officer but they managed to arrest one of the armed robbers identified as Bukari Amadu and retrieved the AK47 riffle No.A7123 with its ammunition, 9 rounds of G3 ammunition, single barrel locally made gun with 2AA live cartridges, 1BB cartridge and one 1AA empty shell.
Police indicate that the security men combed the bush and arrested suspect another Haruna Asor and also retrieved the two G3 riffles and it’s ammunition, a cash of GH¢ 1,958.70p from both suspects suspected to be for the victims.
Sergeant Daniel Akamaro who sustained an injury during the attack, was later rushed to the Atua Government Hospital where he has since been treated and discharged.
Meanwhile, Doku Abraham aged 40 a petrol tanker driver in charge DAF petrol tanker with registration Number GT 8420-W and two other drivers who were victims of robbery gang have lodged an official complaint with the police.
They were travelling from Odumase-Krobo and Somanya respectively with passengers on board one of the vehicles to Akateng village near Asesewa but on reaching a section of the road at Asitey Mountains on the Asesewa motor road, they were attacked by the 6 armed men who robbed them of their belongings including various sums of money.
