Armed robbers' operation car retrieved

Accra, Sept.22, GNA - An abandoned Opel Vectra Saloon car with registration number GW 1942 P used by suspected armed robbers for their operations in 2002 has been retrieved by the Accra Central Police. The Police in a statement on Thursday said all attempts to locate Emelia Opoku Mensah of Box A 22, Kumasi, in whose name the vehicle was registered, had proved futile.

A statement signed by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Mr Jordan Quaye, Accra Regional Public Affairs Officer, appealed to members of the public to assist in identifying the owner for collection. In another development the Accra Regional Police Command said some criminals had adopted new measures to rob women carrying large sums of money.

The Command said the criminals approached a businesswoman they suspected to be carrying a large sum of money and snatched her bag. While in the process of snatching the bags they were shouting: "Bad wife; nasty wife; flirt. I caught you pants down; witch, now give me my money and go back to flirt with Yaw Nimo."

It said while the woman was struggling with the bag snatchers, people who could have gone to her assistance looked on unconcerned until the criminals succeeded in taking the bag and its content from the woman, jumped into a waiting vehicle and drove away. In some instances the criminals pretend to be Police Detectives trying to arrest suspects when they believed that a man was carrying large sums of money.

The Police had, therefore, appealed to the general public to go to the aid of any such person they found in similar situations.
