Winneba (C/R), Jan. 24, GNA - The Assembly man for Abasraba Electoral Area in Winneba, Mr Yakubu Barry on Sunday called on Asafo companies, community watchdog committees to assist the police to fight against recent increasing number of crimes in the town.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency on Sunday, Mr Barry said the four-armed robbery cases around the SSNIT hostel of the North Campus of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has put fears in citizens of the area.

In all the cases, the robbers were able to rob off their victims who were all taxi drivers of their daily sales ranging between 200,000 cedis and 300,000 cedis but without any casualty, he said.

Mr Barry told the people that helping to maintain peace and security in their neighbourhood should be seem as a civic responsibility and urged them to give information that would lead to the arrest of the culprits.

The assemblyman also told the police not to betray those who would give such information, because if they do, it would be very difficult for them to get such assistance again.

Mr Barry appealed to police officers, especially those who passed out recently to always maintain a high standards of discipline and self control at all times to help them render excellent service to people in the division and the nation at large.

He also called on the police to co-operate with people in their communities because without such cooperation they would find it very difficult to perform creditably.
