Bar operator remanded for assaulting ex-lover

Accra, Feb. 15, GNA - A 35-year-old drinking bar operator who allegedly assaulted his ex-girl friend until she became unconscious on Wednesday appeared at an Accra Circuit Court charged with causing harm. Ebenezer Adopley, whose plea was not taken, has been remanded into prison custody to reappear on March 1.

The case as presented by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr Emmanuel Y. Amegah was that Ms Becky Jackson, the complainant, is a trader.

ASP Amegah said the accused and complainant were lovers. Prosecution said due to frequent beatings meted out on her by Adopley, Ms Jackson quitted the relationship and joined her sister at Adabraka. Adopley, who did not take kindly to that, vowed to make life unbearable for Ms Jackson.

On February 6, 2006, at about 2000 hours, Adopley went to Ms Jackson's house but Ms Jackson asked him to leave before her new boyfriend arrived.

Adopley obliged but returned later, entered Ms Jackson's room and without any provocation assaulted her until she became unconscious. Prosecution said Adopley sneaked out leaving the complainant to her fate.

Prosecution said when Ms Jackson's sister returned from town, she found Ms Jackson lying unconscious with blood oozing from her ears and nostrils.

Ms Jackson, who was rushed to the Ridge Hospital, is still receiving treatment.
