Barber in court for allegedly attempting to sell a hunch back

Accra, July 6, GNA - A 31-year-old barber, Francis Mensah Osei, who allegedly attempted to sell a hunchback for GH¢10,000 cedis, ostensibly for use for rituals, on Tuesday appeared before an Accra Circuit Court. Osei whose plea was not taken has been charged with human traffickin g. He is to re-appear on July 15. The court presided over by Mrs Georgina Mensah-Datsa remanded him in to police custody pending further investigations into the matter. Prosecuting, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kofi Blagodzi pra yed the court to remand Osei to enable the Police to conduct further investigations into the matter.

DSP Blagodzi said complainants in the case were Policemen stationed at the Greater Accra Regional Criminal Investigations Department of Ghana Police Service. On June 29, this year, the Greater Accra Regional Police Command received information that Osei wanted to sell Enoch Ofori, a hunchback fo r ritual purposes to one Alhaji. Based on that information, plain clothed policemen were dispatched t o Achimota Overpass to monitor the accused person who was to meet the prospective buyer (Alhaji), who happened to be a policeman for GH¢10,00 0 cedis. On accused person's arrival at the spot with the victim, he was arrested.
