Boy, 20, steals from military barracks

Fiapre (B/A) Aug. 8, Space FM - The Fiapre Circuit Court presided over by His Lordship Justice Benjamin Osei, has sentenced a twenty year old student to one year imprisonment for stealing two mobile phones belonging to a military officer, valued at GH¢340.00

The convict, Hackman Owusu, who claimed to be a student of the Kumasi Polytechnic, pleaded guilty to the charges leveled against him.

According to the prosecutor, Police Inspector Ernest Nyarko Donyina, on August 3, 2011, at about 4:30PM, the accused went to the Liberation Barracks in Sunyani, entered the recky and stole the two mobile phones.

The prosecutor added that while the accused was about to bolt with the stolen items, the complainant saw him and he took to his heels.

The complainant raised an alarm and other soldiers pursuit the accused who had then gone to hide in the bush.

The soldiers laid ambush and arrested the culprit thirty minutes later after he emerged from his hide out

Prosecution said after his arrest, he took them to where he had hidden the phones and retrieved them. The complainant then brought the accused to the police station and lodged a complaint.

According to the prosecutor, the accused admitted the offence during police interrogation and was accordingly charged.
