Asikuma (C/R), Oct 7, GNA - The Omanhene of the Breman Asikuma Traditional Area, Nana Amoakwa Boadu VII, has denied media reports that he settled a misunderstanding between Mr Emmanuel Adjei Doomson, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa when he was nominated for post and a group of Asembly members led by Ms Philips Nyakoh.
He stated that he could not take credit for something he had not done, adding that, he had not settled any matter since the case was still pending before the Cape Coast High Court. Speaking to the GNA, Nana Boadu expressed disgust about Media reports that he settled the case paving the way for the confirmation of Mr Doomson as the DCE.
He said that when the Assembly rejected Mr Doomson on 16 July 2005, a reconciliation committee was set up to settle the matter, which had been sent to the Cape Coat High Court to nullify the election. It would be recalled that Mr Doomson filed a writ against the Presiding Member of the Assembly and the Electoral Commission (EC) praying the court to nullify the results of his rejection as the DCE. The Omanhene stated that the committee members came to his palace during the celebration of the Akwasi Dae festival and pleaded with him to intervene to settle the case out of court to ensure peace and stability in the district.
He said that he contacted Ms Nyakoh and her group for a settlement and spoke to the Lawyer of Mr Doomso but the group refused. Nana Boadu pointed out that on August 15, 2005 an affidavit signed by Ms Christina Mensah, Attorney for Mr Doomson, in which it was stated that Ms Nyakoh had embezzled 500 million cedis entrusted to her by the Ministry for Women and Children's Affairs for poverty alleviation. He stated the affidavit also said that Ms Nyakoh could explain how she financed her mansion at Breman Kokoso and that the only way to forestall this was to obstruct the endorsement of the President nominee. Nana Boadu said this stopped him from making fresh attempts to have the case withdrawn for settlement and expressed his displeasure about the report that he had settled the case.
He explained that he was not against Mr Doomson being appointed as the DCE but said that nothing should be attributed to him, which was unfounded.
