A 44-year-old Burkinabe has been remanded by an Accra Domestic Violence and Gender Circuit court presided over by Mrs. Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku, for allegedly defiling a 9-year-old pupil.

Charles Valentine Doula, a security man at Obojo, a suburb of Accra, who is alleged to have used force to have intercourse with the minor was arraigned before the Court yesterday, but pleaded not guilty to the charge of defilement, contrary to section 101 (2) of Act 29/60 as amended by section 11 of Act 554/98.

He is expected to reappear before the court on June 15, 2016 for hearing.

Facts

Briefing the court, Inspector J.B. Asante said the victim is a nine (9) year
old pupil living with her mother, Lydia Senanu at Obojo, near the Apostles Revelation Society (ARS) Church, whilst Charles Doula is a 44- year old Burkinabe and a security man at the Barraka Policy Institute at Obojo.

According to the Prosecutor, on Monday May 20, 2016 at about 10:30am, Charles, who was then on duty sent the victim to buy him bissah drink (sobolo) from her auntie in their house.

He added that, when the victim returned, Charles grabbed and whisked her into the security room, tied her hands with a sponge and forcibly had sexual intercourse with her. After the act, he gave the victim an amount of GHC1.00 and warned her not to inform anyone.

Inspector J.B. Asante told the court that, on Tuesday May 24, 2016, when the victim returned from school, she was feeling feverish so her mother, who is the complainant in this case, instructed her sister to bath her.

In the process, she saw blood when the victim urinated and quickly alerted the victim’s mother who quizzed her. The victim then revealed her ordeal to her mum.

A formal report was made at the Madina Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) and a medical report form was issued for the victim to be taken to the hospital for medical examination and treatment, which she did. Charles was then apprehended and after investigations, he was charged with the offence and brought to court.
