Cable thief escapes in an accident near Wa

Wa, Dec 7, GNA - The Wa police has intensified the search for a young man who allegedly stole electric cables meant for the Dorimon community in the Wa West district.

Detective Police Inspector Samuel Amidu told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Wa on Wednesday that the suspect was spotted by an informant at Dorimon at 0130 hours loading some items on a Toyota vehicle bearing license plate no GR 2327 H. He said the informant who became suspicious because of the time of the act sneaked back to the village and informed the community members.

Inspector Amidu said when the suspect saw the people, he sped off with the vehicle, but the community members chased him with motorbikes until the vehicle somersaulted. He said before the pursuers could get to the accident spot, the driver who was the only occupant got out and run into the bush. However, a search in the vehicle revealed that a quantity of electric cables. Inspector Amidu told the GNA that a check on the registration of the car revealed that it belonged to one M.A Gandaa of Wa and that efforts were being made to apprehend the driver.

"Once we have been able to identify the owner of the vehicle, we shall definitely arrest the driver within the shortest possible time. He said Mr. George Amponsah, popularly known as 'Tee Pee' had already claimed ownership of the cables and that further investigations were being conducted. Mr. Amponsah, the electrical contractor who claimed ownership of the cables told the GNA that the suspect took away a total of 4,000 metres.
