Two persons believed to be part of a car-snatching syndicate are in the grips of the Accra Regional Police Command.

They are Michael Salifu Kobby, 42, an auto mechanic; and Oscar Mensah, also 42 and an auto mechanic as well.

Briefing the press about the details of the arrest, the Accra Regional Police Commander, ACP Timothy Yosa Bonga, detailed that on June 6, the command had a tip-off that a car-snatching syndicate was offering vehicles suspected to have been hijacked for sale around Sowutuom.

According to him, after receiving the information, the police immediately proceeded to the said location to assess the situation and get the perpetuators arrested.

The moment the police arrived at the location, the suspects, upon spotting them, quickly jumped into a KIA Sportage car with registration number GR-276-Z and sped off.

The police gave them a hot case through Sowutuom, Asafo to Capital Hill, where they abandoned the car and took to their heels.

They were pursued until they were finally arrested at Capital Hill junction. However, one of the suspects whose name has just been given as Kwame managed to escape.

The two suspects led the police to retrieve a Toyota Corolla with registration number GC-1462-12 and one unregistered KIA Sonata which they snatched from other victims.

When interrogated by the police, the suspects confessed to the crime and stated that they had been involved in the venture for five years now.
