Maxwell Cobbey Kugbega, a cashier, who allegedly misappropriated GH?27, 963.00 belonging to his employer and gave out same as loans has been put before an Accra Circuit Court.
Kugbega, charged with stealing money from Global Feed Micro Finance Limited at Gbawe, has pleaded not guilty.
The court presided over by Mr Yaw Ato Sampson admitted the accused person to bail in the sum of GH?30,000.00 with two sureties to reappear on November 4.
The accused person’s lawyer told the Court that his client had managed to collect GH?4,500.00 from his customers.
Defence counsel said accused would sort out with his employer the actual amount and come out with the proper figure.
According to counsel, Kugbega was ready to lead the Police to collect the rest of the money hence he should be admitted to bail.
Prosecuting Inspector Maxwell Kingsley Oppong told the Court that the complainant, Mr Alex Boakye is the Manager of Global Feed Microfinance Limited, Gbawe branch.
On August 31, this year, a customer came to withdraw his money in the absence of the accused person.
Inspector Oppong said when the customer’s account was checked on the company’s system, there was no money in his account.
Based on that, prosecution said an audit was conducted and it came to light that Kugbega had been stealing various monies from the account of 44 customers he was servicing to the tune of GH?27, 965.00.
Kugbega was, therefore, handed over to the Police and during interrogation; accused said he had given out the monies as loans to his customers.
He, however, failed to lead the Police to his customers.
