Tema, Jan. 18, GNA -- A 22-year old cleaner at Tema, has been granted bail in the sum of 50 million cedis with one surety by the Tema Circuit Court 'B' for allegedly stealing 2000 US Dollars from his employer.
The accused Duncan Atungah, pleaded not guilty to stealing and will re-appear on February 25, this year.
Chief Inspector Teye Martey told the court, presided over by Mr Stephen Teye that the complainant in the case, who is Captain of MV Gos II vessel, berthed at Fishing Harbour engaged the services of Atungah on December 21, last year to clean his room.
He said the Captain later left the vessel and left Atungah in the company of other crew members and returned the following day only to realise that his 2000 US Dollars was missing from his bag. He later had information that the accused left the previous day in a boat to his house even though his contract had not ended.
The Chief Inspector said the Operations Master in hearing the case confessed seeing Atungah the previous day with dollars in his pocket when he demanded to inspect his mobile phone. A report was made to the Police and Atungah was arrested at his residence at Nungua.
