Sunyani, Sept 03, GNA - A Circuit Court at Fiapre, near Sunyani, has remanded Kofi Sarkodie, a 30-year-old common carrier, for stealing 760,000 cedis belonging to Madam Faustina Agyeiwaa in Sunyani.
He pleaded not guilty and will re-appear on September 15. Inspector Alex Ofosu, the prosecutor, told the court that Madam Agyeiwaa met the accused and one other person on August 30 in Sunyani on her way to join a vehicle to Berekum.
He said Sarkodie asked her to direct her to a place where he could change CFA francs into cedis.
Madam Agyeiwaa told him she did not but the second person, now at large, told Sarkodie that he could assist him.
Sarkodie then asked the woman to accompany them to the place but took her to a school building where he asked her to hand over her bag containing the money to him so he could deposit gold in it for her.
The accused asked Madam Agyeiwaa not to open the black polythene bag put in her handbag till she reached her destination. Inspector Ofosu said when she reached home and opened the bag she realized that 760,000 cedis that was in it had vanished and the polythene bag contained lotto papers. 03 Sept 04
