Asamankese (E/R), May 13, GNA - Abdulai Issah, A corn-miller, who stole a sewing machine and other items valued at 2.7 million cedis, has been sentenced to 36 months imprisonment in hard labour by a circuit court at Asamankese. Issah, who pleaded guilty to stealing, pleaded with the court to have mercy on him claiming he believed it was a curse him, which led him to be stealing.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Eric Okyere, told the court presided by Mr Kofi Akrowiah, that Issah arrived at Akwatia on May 3, this year and spent the night at the lorry station. He said in the early hours of the next day, the accused entered the shop belonging to Rukayatu Kalidu, a seamstress and stole the items, which he packed in a bag.
Chief Inspector Okyere said when confronted by some members of the Akatia neighbourhood watch committee, he said he was sending the contents to his wife in Accra, but later confessed to stealing the items. He was then arrested and handed over to the police.
