Court bail for two murder suspects

Asamankese, May 6, GNA- The Asamankese Circuit Court has granted a bail of 30 million- cedi with two sureties each, to two men who were standing trial for allegedly murdering a 35-year-old woman, Ms Phyllis Abena Mensah, through abortion.

The two accused persons are Dr Cyril Laud Bannerman of the Banner Hill Hospital at Nsawam and Franklin Akpoh Mensah, a teacher and boyfriend of the deceased.

The two whose pleas were not taken, would re-appear on May 11. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Joseph Idan told the court presided by Mr Kofi Akrowiah, that Mensah and Phyllis were lovers until Phyllis's death on February 23, this year.

He said during their amorous relationship, Phyllis became pregnant and Flanklin took her to Dr Bannerman to have the pregnancy terminated, leading to her death the next day at the Asamankese Government Hospital, where she was rushed to after her health started deteriorating. A complaint was made to the Police and the two were arrested and charged with the offence. 06 May 05
