Awutu (C/R), April 21, GNA - The District Magistrate's Court at Awutu on Monday sentenced Micheal Yaw Hazra, unemployed, to a fine of 300 Ghana Cedis when it found him guilty of stealing two mobile phones valued 310 Ghana Cedis and 260 Ghana Cedis, the property of Mr Ramzy Donkor, trader.
He will go to jail for six months in hard labour if he fails to pay the fine.
Police Chief Inspector Helena Aidoo told the court that the convict's brother was staying with Mr Donkor at Akweiley a suburb of Kasoa. Hazra took advantage and visited the house and requested that he be allowed to charge his phone.
When Mr Donkor and the brother were asleep, the convict sneaked into the room and stole the items and the cash. Chief Inspector Aidoo said the accused went into hiding until April 18, 2008 when he was arrested.
