A student of Hilton Nii Sowah has been put before an Accra Circuit Court for robbing one Cynthia Asondek of her Sansung Galaxy X3 mobile phone worth GH?1, 500.00.
Hilton pleaded guilty to the charge with an explanation, but the court after convicting the suspect however deferred sentencing to December 15.
The suspect explained to the court that he was in need of money to pay for his Basic Education Certificate Examination so he sold the phone to raise the money for his registration and begged the Court to show him mercy since he was a first time offender.
The facts of the case as presented by Police Inspector Martin Acheampong are that the complainant, Cynthia is a nurse at North Legon Hospital and resides at Malejor, a town near Oyibi, while the convict is a Junior High School Form one student at Otinibi M.A Basic School also residing at the same place.
He said on December 1, at about 1900 hours, the complainant was walking home after work, some few meters to her house, the convict was walking ahead of her but suddenly turned and drew a cutlass and asked her to surrender her mobile phone.
He told the court that the complainant resisted to do so and in the process she sustained bruises on her left hands and both legs. Hilton pushed her unto the ground and forcibly collected her mobile phone and took to his heels.
The prosecution said the complainant who was in severe pains shouted for help and her sister one Nora Asondek who was in the house heard the alarm and came to her rescue and subsequently sent her to the hospital before lodging a complainant with the police.
He said on December 3, the convict upon police intelligence was arrested at his school and a search in his room revealed 14 unserviceable mobile phones together with the complainants Samsung phone with her sim card removed.
Police Inspector Acheampong said in his caution statement, the convict admitted the offence.
