Nii Ade, a mason, accused of robbing one Theresa Asare of her purse containing old and new voters identity cards, National Health Insurance card and GH? 200.00, has been discharged by an Accra Circuit Court.
Nii was discharged by the court presided over by Mr Francis Obiri, after it ruled that the accused person has been on remand since May 8, 2012 when he last appeared before the court.
According to the court, the prosecution had not shown interest in pursuing the case because the case had seen 67 adjournments.
Consequently, the Court said it was irrelevant to continue remanding him, and therefore discharged him and cautioned him to be of good behaviour.
Nii pleaded not guilty to the charge of conspiracy to commit crime and robbery.
The prosecution told the court that the complainant Theresa Asare is a trader and resides at Kaneshie-Takoradi lorry station with the accused.
On March 30, 2012, at about 0530 hours, the complainant was attacked with a cutlass by the accused person and two others now at large around the station in front of Jucy spot and forcibly collected her purse containing the said items and bolted away.
According to the prosecution, a report was made to the police and on April 8, 2012 the complainant led the police to Kaneshie-Mamprobi trotro station, where the accused was arrested in his hideout.
He told the court that during investigations Nii admitted the offence and told the police that he conspired with a friend named Kofi and one other person whose name he did not know to carry out the robbery.
Nii also led the police to Kaneshie No.1 Methodist Primary and Junior High School, where he had hidden the purse containing the items. The purse was recovered with its content which the complainant identified as hers.
