Fiapre (B/A), March 15, GNA - A circuit court 'B' at Fiapre in Brong Ahafo on Wednesday sentenced Kwasi Ntori, a 27-year-old unemployed, to two years imprisonment in hard labour for stealing a quantity of cocoyam belonging to a farmer. The accused pleaded guilty and was convicted on his own plea. Prosecuting, Chief Inspector S. Amoani told the court, presided by Justice John Kwadwo Owusu Gyamfi that both the accused and the complainant, Mr. Kwaku Amoateng, lived at Yamfo, near Sunyani. He said the complainant, of late experienced thefts on his farm at Kwaaware, near Yamfo so he decided to watch out to arrest the perpetrators.
Chief Inspector Amoani said on March 3 this year, Mr. Amoateng apprehended the accused who had uprooted some of his cocoyam and packed them in a sack ready to carry it home. Mr. Amoateng arrested the accused and brought him together with the cocoyam to Yamfo Police station. The prosecutor said the accused admitted the offence during Interrogation. Passing judgment, Justice Gyamfi noted that such behaviour was rampant in the municipality and the sentence would deter other perpetrators to stop the act.
