A court at Awutu Breku in the Central Region has granted bail to three members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) after they were earlier remanded into custody for removing posters belonging to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Awutu Senya West, Eugene Arhin.

Appearing in court on Monday, September 16, 2024, the suspects, including the NDC Communications Officer for Awutu Senya West, Cassius Otoo Larbi, were granted self-recognisance bail by the presiding judge, Her Ladyship Naomi Konto.

According to a report by Despite Media’s Jacob Kubi, an insistence by the police for the suspects to produce their Ghana Cards resulted in several NDC supporters amassing at the court premises, leading to a standoff.

The suspects were eventually released and are set to reappear in court on September 24, 2024.

The suspects were arrested for allegedly removing the NPP candidate’s posters from some earthmoving machines delivered to the constituency under the government’s District Road Improvement Project (DRIP).

They are also accused of threatening to deal with an eyewitness who captured their actions on video.

The Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, Gizella Tetteh Agbotui, who also doubles as the NDC parliamentary candidate for the area, has described the attempt to prosecute the suspects as petty, noting that her posters have also been destroyed.

However, according to the District Chief Executive Officer, Moses Arhinful Acquah, the case is not solely about the destruction of posters but also includes the threat made against the eyewitness.
