Court grants Sales assistant 20 million cedis bail for stealing

Cape Coast, June 22, GNA - A Cape Coast Circuit Court on Thursday granted 20 million cedis bail to Michael Mensah, 27, a Sales Assistant for allegedly stealing 10,150,000 cedis belonging to Mr Thomas Ayensah, his employer.

He pleaded not guilty and would reappear on Thursday July 20. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Hope Azasoo, told the court presided over by Mr Justice Beresford Acquah, that between September last year and February 7 this year, Mr Ayensah detected shortage in sales at his Pharmacy shop and suspected Mensah, because of his extravagant life-style.

Police Chief Inspector Azasoo, said on February 7 this year, Mr Ayensah gave 150,000 cedis in 20,000 cedis denominations to Miss Mavis Williams to purchase drugs from the shop after writing down the serial numbers.

He said at the close of work that day, Mr Ayensah went to the shop to check on the sales made, but detected that the 150,000 cedis whose serial numbers he had written were not included.

The prosecution said Mr Ayensah therefore, confronted Mensah who admitted stealing the money and led Mr Ayensah to his (Mensah's) girl friend's house nearby where the money was retrieved and the matter reported to the police.

Police Chief Inspector Azasoo said during interrogation, Mensah admitted stealing various sums of monies totalling 10,150,000 cedis including the 150,000 cedis from the shop and after investigations charged with the offence.
