Court grants bail to a farmer for causing harm

Akim Swedru, Aug. 11, GNA - A 37-year-old farmer from Akim Adwafo in the Birim North District who inflicted cutlass wounds on a woman which resulted in the lost of one of her fingers, was on Thursday granted 20 million-cedi bail in with two sureties.

The farmer, Kwadwo Appiah, who pleaded guilty to a charge of causing harm, would re-appear at the Akim Swedru Circuit Court on August 25, this year, for sentence.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Ben Osei Kwadwo, told the court, presided over by Mr Edward Apenkwa, that on July 10, this year, the accused who detected for sometime now that thieves were stealing cassava on his farm decided to lay ambush.

He said the suspect was in his hideout when he spotted Abena Rita, 23, entering the farm and on suspecting that she might be the one harvesting his cassava attacked and inflicted cutlass wounds on her. The screams of Rita attracted a passer-by who went to the scene to rescue her.

The Prosecution said Rita was later admitted to the Akim Oda Government hospital where one of her left fingers was amputated.
