Cape Coast June 2, GNA- Drama unfolded at a circuit court in Cape Coast on Wednesday, when Maxwell Yaovi a 16-year-old Junior Secondary Student, standing trial for defiling a 14 year-old school mate, pleaded for leniency, "since the incident was an accident".
Yaovi who pleaded guilty to the offence was however sentenced to a 10-year jail term in hard labour and also asked to provide three million cedis as compensation to the victim who is pregnant.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Augustine Amonoo, told the court presided over by Mr Mustapha Logoh that on March 10, this year Yaovi lured the victim to his room after school and sexually abused her. Inspector Amonoo said Yaovi warned the victim not to inform anybody but immediately the victim got home, she reported the matter to her mother who in turned informed the police leading to his arrest. Prosecution said during police interrogation he admitted the offence and said the victim was his girl friend.
In a related development, Emmanuel Asare, a 25-year-old Auto Mechanic, was jailed 10 years by the same court for defiling a 14-year-old class six pupil at Essuekyir a suburb of Cape Coast. Asare who also pleaded guilty is to compensate the victim with three million cedis.
The prosecution said at about 2300 hours on May 28, the victim went to Asare's room to watch a film, after which, Asare sent her to buy him a sachet of water.
He said when the victim brought the water, Asare dragged her into his room and sexually abused. He said after the act, the victim who was bleeding profusely narrated the incident to her mother, leading to the arrest of the convict. 02 June 05
