Court jails trader for stealing

Mamponteng (Ash), May 15, GNA - The Mamponteng district magistrate court has sentenced a 22-year-old trader to 18 months imprisonment in hard labour for stealing his friend's two million cedis. Emmanuel Owusu was convicted on his own plea of guilty. Police Chief Inspector Charles Mensah told the court that the complainant, Kwabena Owusu, is a close friend of the convict and used to reside with him in a house at Adabraka near Mamponteng in the Kwabre District.

He said last month the convict stayed with the complainant for five days, citing a problem he had with his family. On the last day when the convict was supposed to have ended his visit, he sneaked into the complainant's bedroom and stole the money. Owusu lodged a complaint with the police who arrested the convict and during investigation he admitted stealing 1.2 million cedis and not two million cedis. 15 May 05
