Court sentences impersonator

Accra, April 15, GNA - An Accra Regional Tribunal has convicted Eric Osei Kwaku, aka Joseph Amoah, who attempted to join the Armed Forces under false pretence during a recruitment exercise. He was fined GH¢200 for deceit of public officer and impersonation and will go to prison for 45 days if he fails to pay. In addition, Kwaku has been bonded to be of good behaviour for 200 days or in default serve a prison term of 200 days.

The prosecution said Kwaku was arrested by the Ghana Armed Forces in February 2008 and handed him to the police. A press release issued by the Ghana Armed Forces reminded the general public, especially young Ghanaians who want to join the military, that due to the vigilance of the recruitment system, those attempting to use illegal means to enlist would be found out and prosecuted.
