A Sunyani Circuit Court, presided over by Mrs. Joan Eyiking, has sentenced a suspected robber to three years for escaping from police custody.

Kwaku Yeboah had been sent for medical treatment at the Sunyani Regional Hospital - handcuffed and under 24-hour police guard, but managed to flee.

He was sentenced after he pleaded guilty to the offence.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Christopher Tawiah, the Brong Ahafo Regional Police Public Relations Officer, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the convict is also to stand trial for robbery.

Yeboah, it would be recalled, went into hiding at Kwatire in the Sunyani West District, from where he was re-arrested based upon a tip-off.

He was first arrested on May 02, at about 1930 hours when he together with one other person on the run, attacked and robbed a trader in her shop at gun-point at Ohene Djan, a suburb of Abesim, near Sunyani.
