Court slaps 10 years on a man for defilement

Dormaa-Ahenkro (B/A), Jan 17, GNA - A circuit court at Dormaa Ahenkro has slapped a 10-year jail sentence on Braimah Kusase, a 42-year-old farmer at Sefwi-Ahimakrom, for defiling a 13-year-old girl in the bush.

Kusase faces additional two years sentence if he fails to pay a two million cedis' compensation imposed by the court towards the upkeep of the victim.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector M. K. Nyarko told the court that on December 19 last year one Kofi Dagarti went to the bush in search of rafters for his kitchen. While there, Dagarti heard an unusual noise and decided to trace the source.

"To his amazement Kofi met Kusase lying on the girl in a manner reminiscent of forcible sexual intercourse", the inspector said. Inspector Nyarko said upon seeing Dagarti, Braimah collected his pair of trousers and sandals and took to his heels in the nude. But Dargati caught him, brought Braimah almost naked to town and reported the incident to the victim's grandfather who reported him to the police.
