Court strikes out appeal against Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs

Accra, Oct. 26, GNA - The Supreme Court on Tuesday struck out Nii Armah Quaye's appeal against the Judicial Committee of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, which sought to challenge the decision of the Committee that the late Nii Ayittey Agbefue was not the chief of the Ga Gbese Community in Accra.

Ms Justice Sophia Akuffo, who chaired the five-member panel, in her ruling, stated: "I hereby certify that the appellant in the appeal has not complied with the requirement of the Rule 15(1) of CI 16". The Greater Accra House of chiefs, in February 2003, ruled that Nii Agbefue was not the rightful chief and, therefore, ordered that he should hand over the symbol of stool and other authorities to the kingmakers.

Instead of going to the National House of Chiefs to appeal against the decision, he rushed to the Accra High Court to appeal against the Greater Accra House of Chiefs decision, where the case was dismissed for having no merit.

The Applicant again proceeded to the Appeal Court to canvas against the High Court's ruling and this was also dismissed.
