Asamankese, July 21, GNA - A 21-year-old man who claimed to be a disc jockey, (DJ) was, on Wednesday, sentenced to six months imprisonment, in hard labour, by the Asamankese Circuit Court for stealing a computer systems unit.
Komla Asare pleaded guilty.
Police Chief Inspector Ben Nyonator, prosecuting, told the court that Asare, who claimed to be a DJ, living at Agbadzena in Accra Newtown, stole the systems unit at Ningo, near Nankese.
He said on June 10, at about 1100 hours, Asare went to a funeral ground at Ningo and introduced himself to a witness in the case, who was 'spinning' as a DJ.
Asare then sat by the witness till 2200 hours when he was seen off by the witness.
The prosecutor said the instrument including, the computer system, was packed and later kept on a veranda and covered with a tarpaulin.
He said about 0130 hours the next morning, Asare was seen with the systems unit by a policeman off duty, at the South Akim Rural Bank.
Suspecting that Asare might have stolen the item, the policeman confronted him but he could not give him any reasonable answer as to where he was taking the machine to.
The policeman, therefore, arrested him and took him together with the machine to the police station with the assistance of others.
